Faith-Action-Community-Experience (FACE)

July 9-15, 2006

Life in a complex world demands that women grow into leadership roles that cross the borders between various cultures and groups. The Saint Mary's InterCultural Leadership: A Faith-Action-Community Experience helps high school women gain confidence in their abilities to make a difference. During the week students explored culture and its impact on our lives; addressed challenges faced by young people; experienced hands-on team building exercises; practiced new ways of intercultural understanding; participated in a service opportunity in the city of South Bend; learned different models of women's leadership; and developed a team project to share their values with others.

The Experience brought together young women from diverse populations to work for positive change in themselves and their communities, and guided students to become the intercultural leaders our complex world needs.

Saint Mary’s College, long a pioneer in the education of women, is committed to preparing women for leadership in the areas of work, church, and community.

Goals of FACE:

  • To join a diverse group of young women leaders
  • To discover your values
  • To learn how to put ideas into action
  • To develop confidence in your ability to lead and make a difference in the world
  • To grow in your understanding of your own culture and other cultures
