Students interested in completing an internship internationally have 2 separate opportunities and locations abroad offered through Saint Mary’s: London, England and Seville, Spain. Each internship offers the experience to gain “real-world” professional skills as well as immerse in the local culture. All fields of study are welcome to apply and experience an internship in these settings.
The London internship program is a 7-week program, including six weeks of an internship and one week of orientation. The program is coordinated through our partner institution CAPA International. Once accepted, CAPA International will find an internship that suits your interests and needs.
Students must be at least first semester sophomores to participate in these internships with at least a 2.8 GPA. Participants must also be full-time students at the time of their internship to be eligible for UK VISA status, therefore, graduating seniors are not eligbile.
Students will live in an apartment complex with other interns and commute to their internships daily. Some excursions and social outings are also included with this experience.
The internships abroad are intended to help students expand their intercultural knowledge as well as specific industry knowledge. Students are also encouraged to utilize their internship abroad experience to inform their career choices and paths. Students will participate in an internship 15 hours per week and must also enroll in the Learning Through Internships course offered by CAPA, which complements the internship, as well as a contextual course (10 are offered by CAPA). Students will receive up to 3 credits for the internship and 3 credits for the contextual course. Students MUST contact their academic department regarding receiving credit for the internship in the Spring semester, well in advance of departing for London.
Program dates are May 16 - June 30, 2012, departure May 15.
