World Cinema Festival

Saint Mary's is offering a World Cinema Festival February 20-24, 2012. All films will be shown at 7:00 p.m. in Vander Vennet Theatre. The films will include sub-titles in English. The Festival is free and open to the public. Below is the list of films and specific screening dates.

Monday, February 20
Monsoon Wedding, (2001, India)

Synopsis: As the monsoon rains loom, the Verma family reunites from
around the world to attend a large Punjabi wedding in New Delhi.
The family's hopes, fears and long-guarded secrets emerge during the
frantic wedding preparations.
Five intersecting stories explore different aspects of love.

In the Mood for Love (2000, Hong Kong)

Synopsis: Next door neighbors Chow and Su defiantly become
friends in Hong Kong during the 1960s. Both believe their spouses
are cheating on them, and work together on a project until life
forces them apart.

Wednesday, February 22
Biutiful ( 2010, Mexico/Spain)

Synopsis: Uxbal is a single father working within the dangerous
underworld of modern Barcelona, dealing with a group of illegal
immigrants he helps so they won't be deported, and his bi-polar
wife who's threatening the safety of their children.

Thursday, February 23
Certified Copy (2010, France/Italy)

Synopsis: The film follows a British writer and a French antiques
dealer in Tuscany, where their relationship changes over the course of the day.

Friday,February 24
Of Gods and Men ( 2010, France)

Synopsis: Trappist monks living peacefully in Algeria are faced with
dangerous and violent threats during the Algerian War in 1996.
