Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most important traditional Chinese holiday. It is also an important holiday in East Asia. 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit. The lunar new year falls on the first day of the first moon (lunar month) as will be February 3, 2011.

On February 19, Saint Mary's College will hold the third "China Night Program" to celebrate the holiday with the whole community. Saint Mary’s students and local community members will perform Chinese dances, music, and plays and put on a fashion show to celebrate the occasion. Saint Mary's College students who have participated in the College’s China Summer Program will showcase their study abroad experience. All children and students at the event will be presented with red envelopes, which is a tradition during the Chinese New Year celebration.

Alice Siqin Yang, assistant director of global education, is interviewed about this Saturday's China Night performance and what the public can expect to see at this Chinese New Year celebration. She also talks about how students graduating from college now are entering a world that is more economically interdependent.
